I wouldnt - lenses are tougher than you think and can stand up to a ton of abuse, especially when they are as well built as a Zeiss.

I've got the 21 and looking to buy a 50 MP soon...I'd never put a $150 piece of glass over my $1500 lens, just use common sense.

Having said that, I refuse to ruin this thread with the old filter vs no filter debate. If you prefer protective filters, dont let me stop you. Ill say nothing more on the matter for fear of starting an argument.

More pictures please.

$150 for a piece of glass is pretty expensive. $1500 is the cost of the entire lens not just a piece of glass. anyways, i personally think it's worth investing a little more for the uv filter.

The glass itself is hard to mark up but the coatings can mark up easier than you think. Will it affect picture quality? Most likely not. Will you hate yourself for not spending the money on the filter. YES!!!

I love this lens! I just realized what sharp lens is! My 70-200 MKII is not ever near sharp as this amazing piece or engineering!
