Unfortunately my idea for starting a circle of friends to share ideas and information about Photoshop isn't working out very well. it's getting all kinds of other junk coming in on the stream.
The Idea of circles isn't working out to good when people drag along their twitter and FB habits.

If you add a person to any of your circles and you're in any of theirs, when they post something and aren't selecting which circles to share it with, it goes to everyone and floods their streams/feeds for the circle(s) that person is included in with all kinds of junk that is irrelevant to the subject.

Right now the only option is to remove that person from that circle. But then they won't be getting anything you post either.

@ Chuck, I sent a G+ Invite your way.

Yea, I kinda thought that might happen. I've been following this thread from the start, and am very interested in learning more about PS, but I was waiting to respond because I just didn't want one more feed with all kinds of crap in it.

In addition to the G+ stuff already under way (like the POTN circle), my own personal FB stuff, I also administer a popular FB group.

It's not that I am not interested in people, places, and things and what they're up to. I am.

It's just that too much "who cares" crap floats in with it.

Exactly..
Some people are having a hard time understanding what I am trying to say about and think Just selecting public is the way to do things. IF that were true then you would only require one circle to place all your contact/friends. That's not how I understand Circles to work when I read the instructions.

Setting up a circle like this will only work If each person does the same and be selective when they share their comments. That way we can choose which stream we want to read and it won't be full of a bunch of irrelevant junk.

I get the feeling people are creating so many circles they don't want to take the time to go through the list and select which one to send to and which one not to. The easy/Lazy way is to just pick Public or My Circles and it goes out to everyone.

There is also an option to share with "Extended Circles" which I don't know if I like to well. Great for a spammer!
If your Circles are visible on your profile, then when someone chooses "Extended Circles" their comments are shared with everyone in all their circles, as well as people in your visible circles who aren't in theirs.
Since there is no way of blocking those comments from going out to your circles, the only option you have is to set the visibility of who's in your circles so no one can see them in your profile. The problem with that is when someone visits your profile they won't be able to see if you have any friends in common.

Keep going in circles like this and we're all going to get dizzy. ;)

On Edit:
I've noticed a little chatter that some people are taking the time to organize their circles. Maybe the message is getting out and they're getting the idea.

Hopefully as time goes on, Google + will incorporate a "delete post" function for the junk that shows up in
our circles that we don't want to see. As it stands right now, all we can do is either, "block" or "mute"
a particular post. Muting is all fine and dandy but you have to use a drop down menu to get to it. I'd like
to see a delete post function right next to that little arrow for the drop down menu so we could zap the crap!
(Deletes it out of the particular circle but not the main stream).
I think there will always be crap getting in unwanted circles because
people just get in a big hurry to get their stuff posted up. So hopefully
G+ will make it a little easier on everybody and add a delete post option.

<rant over>

So if you guys and gals want to add your G+ screen names to this thread, it will be
easier to search for you on G+ to add you to a "photoshop/POTN circle".
Searching your e-mail address doesn't really work out to good! Well it does
if you are the one doing the inviting because you can "invite/add" to a circle at the same time.

In other words you want a plainly visible delete button/link rather than the drop-down menu with other options. Maybe put it down on the bottom on the same line as the +1, Comment and Share.
Personally I like a drop-down menu because it keeps things out of the way and less intrusive.

Mute is essentially the same as delete in that we are removing someone else's comments so we don't have to see it rather than preventing anyone else from seeing it.
We can however delete one of our own posts which will completely delete it preventing everyone else in your circles from seeing it.

You can moderate your own discussions!
If it is a discussion you started you can click the drop-down menu and instead of selecting Delete to remove the whole discussion thread, Select "Report or remove comments" which allows you to remove individual comments from the thread discussion.

Enough on that.
Since I started on G+ a couple weeks ago I have accumulated numerous photography contacts. Many of them I know are from here at POTN, but I am sure there are many others who are not.
I've got a circle set up just for POTN and wish there were some way of identifying where the heck all these photographers are coming from so I know whether or not to add them to that circle.

Not necessarily add a "delete post" but maybe just move the "mute post" outside of the drop down menu so it would be quicker to use.

It would be nice if POTN members on G+ would add a small mention of POTN in their profile to better identify who they are for the POTN circle.

Here's a list Roger started from another thread that people can post a comment on to help identify themselves as POTN members---->click< (external link)

I added a link to POTN which anyone can see when they visit my profile.

That list helps, and it is getting long.

Well, two questions:

Has someone who is not a GMail user been successful in this? Is it OK if I'm a registered Google user but not a GMail user? I'm registered through my use of Google Maps and Panoramio.

And, if I opened a GMail account, is there any hassle if I just then ignore it, or will I have to check it all the time for messsages related to Google+? As it is I get all my Facebook, Yahoo, POTN and even occasional MySpace messages in my normal email, and it would be a hassle to check GMail all the time as well!

Yes! I don't use Gmail nor do I want to.

Don't need to open a Gmail Account if you don't want to. But it is there and easier to open one if you do ever want it because you're already signed up with a Google Account of one kind or another.

Well OK, Tim, you can send me an invite at:

If there's anything I need to know, fill me in! Like I said I'm already a Google member, so maybe it will make things smoother!

Invent sent.

There is all kinds of help floating around already that will make a lot of things easier for you. You can start with the Google + Help files which have helped me a lot.
And then there are bloggers who have published some great pieces of work that are a great help also.

Hey thanks, I'm about to run out to do some errands, but later today I'll get started!

Oh, did you send me an invite to the PS circle or the POTN circle? I rarely use PS these days and can't even open it on this laptop which I use most of the time, but POTN is certainlay a home away from home, Lightroom is a good subject, and so on and so forth:)!

I put you in both PS and POTN..

As far as I am concerned lightroom discussions are welcome in a PS circle. It is after-all Photoshop Lightroom..
