Im not from the US but have you got any kind of home contents insurance? would your camera gear be covered even if it is out of the house. Just clutching at straws really...

sorry to hear you have had your kit stolen.

I don't have the serial numbers. I bought all of it used and may be able to get them from the previous owners.

This kind of gear doesn't exist much in my area of the world, so it'll be fairly obvious if it surfaces.

problem if you don't have the serial numbers or receipts is how you gonna prove its yours... better get them ASAP.

Only have to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt. In my community, finding a person with the obscure equipment that matches exactly what was taken from me would meet that burden. At least that's what I would argue to a judge.

I filed a police report hours ago. Thanks for your help.

problem is it is highly unlikely that the theft would keep all those things, nor sell them as a kit..they will be sold probably by piece.... not sure about your side of the world, but without receipt and serial number any other lens of the same model would look exactly the same and therefore quite difficult to claim as yours without proof of purchase or serial numbers.

Whew, this just got alot cleaner!

Here is a helpful tip, I hope. Check out craigslist in that area (using searchtempest.com, for those helping out, this is a great tool to check multiple areas at once) and see if anything pops up over the next days. Also, check out your local pawn shops. If you have your serial numbers, and they match, call the authorities first to see what they suggest if you do find them at a pawn shop.

Thread just got a whole lot shorter. If one of your posts was deleted, it was because it was unhelpful and abrasive, or you responded to someone who was unhelpful and abrasive. Bear that in mind if you choose to post further in this thread.

To OP - I hope that the police, or the measures you're taking, will help you recover your gear. Did you enter your name in the Camera Owner field of the EXIF? That can also help identify a lost or stolen camera.

That is a great idea about the owner info, I have forgotten about that in my own equipment. Even if it is a business, entering the business info and phone number may help in the cases of theft. You could also create an owners file on the CF or SD card with your info (no address, just first name and phone number maybe), so that if you ever lose your equipment, the finder may see that info and call. Long shot, but you should use every trick you have available.

I think I'll write down the s/n of my stuff, I've never done it and I don't have it anywhere. If nothing else, your loss might help someone like me in the future.
