Just what the subject reads... I am having a horrible time with aperture. It crashed before updating to lion. Crashes now , as well. It's when using the brushes to PP raw pictures, just one not bulk.

Is there any other program which I can use that doesn't cost an arm and leg? I really have liked aperture, but this is crazy. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice to no avail. Ideas?

Oh, I am running on new quad core i7 MacBook pro. Newest version of aperture, 3.1.3. Library managed and housed on external hard drive.

You should try repairing permissions with Disk Utility and/or repairing your Aperture library. Also, have you installed additional RAM, or does it have Apple's OEM RAM?

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I've ran into a bug before when editing TIFFs. Some sort of memory leak. Other than that, brushes rely heavily on RAM and video RAM.

I think I have four gig of ram. I didn't have this problem on my older macbook pro and I didn't have it for a good while on this newer one. Then one day it started. There may have been a problem all along, it just reared its ugly head when I dove deeper into using aperture.

I have thought about moving to lightroom since this mess has started. CS5 too much $ for what I would use it for. I have a new Kenko teleconvertor I am thinking of returning to get LR.

I will try to repair permissions and/or aperture library.

Will post back...thanks

Try trashing the com.apple.aperture.plist file. That usually will resolve these kind of issues. They are in your home folder>library>preferences. Report back to us. Also did you try 32 bit mode?

If he is on lion he is gonna have some trouble getting to the file he needs to delete.

Well, haven't tried the 32bit mode, but I did do the repair permissions and database steps. It hasn't crashed the program, but it is still slower than when I remember. After work today I will try the 32bit mode and finding the plist file. Thanks and I will get back.

I will look into extra RAM as well.
