Primarily because I don't want a 1DS3. It's a relatively slow shooting body. I'm accustomed to D3/D700 frame rates. In any case, I happen to like the 1.3x crop.

Dave F.

Ah, fair enough, was wondering since you technically own/ed? like 3 FFs.. wait is the d3 a FF, i think so....

I do wonder what Canon and Nikon are announcing later this month as their both wayyy due for new bodies, but its not like i can afford them anyways. Heh.

You'd need a gym or an auditorium for a studio to use a para that large or always go on location out of doors!
220 is a nice size, though, I think, unless, of course, your studio happens to be down in the basement like mine is. :|

I may have room for it.

If you removed your living floor, Leo, it might work in your basement studio.

Dave F.

DAMN he is still at it!! I may have to get it if it goes lower.

Csae wrote in post #12866904 (external link)
Why not wait till the 1ds4 and grab a 1ds3... or just grab a 1ds3 now lol.

I doubt the prices will drop too too much.

I feel so uninspired, have a shoot tomorow, was playing around in the studio with the different modifiers and lighting schemes, and none of them are doing anything for me. BD / Strip/ PLMs/ Octas, at the end of all the random test shots, i'm probably gonna use a ABR for a tight BW portrait with black BG & overhead a gridded BD for hair. And for full body maybe just a normal shoot through with a reflector.

I'll leave the 86"WPLM open & Mounted, just to impress. lol.

They will just think its some kind of beach umbrella

PacAce wrote in post #12866942 (external link)
If I moved the studio to the part of the basement that doesn't have a drop-ceiling, I might be able to just barely fit a 220 FB down there. But I think a 170 FB would be better suited in any part of my basement. ;)

All or nothing!!

I've heard a lot of people complain about the megapixel war that they claim camera makers are engaging in and that pixel size is not all that important anymore. Well, it wasn't until recently that I learned how important megapixel size really and, in some cases, the bigger it is, the better. You see, if you want to shoot a full spread image for a magazine that's 8.5" x 11" per page, you need a minimum image size of 5100 x 3300. The 5D Mark II, the 7D and the 1Ds Mark III easily fit that bill (although there's practically no room for cropping) but the 1D Mark IV falls just short of that minimum requirement and more so the 1D Mark III which I happen to have.

But, on the other hand, as you said, the 1Ds III and the 5D II are much too slow when I'm out in the field shooting fast action sports or motorports. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes, it's good to have a mix of different types of cameras unless, of course, if you only engage in one type of photography. :)

BTW, I'm looking forward to the day when I'll be asked to shoot a 3-page spread. Then I'll have an excuse to move up to a MF camera,if I can afford to, that is. :)
Otherwise, I'll have to resort to a multi-frame pano. :|

Pac, i've met several photographers who've shot full spread images for magazines at 10MP and just upsized.

When your exposure, composition and PPing is done right, theres no problem with MP.

But i'm not good enough, so i'll keep my 5d2 :P

Plus i do mostly Landscapes and portraiture so i can always use the headroom for cropping and the lack of speed is, what speed, i'm shooting full manual with LV Focus and maybe bracketing. Once in the studio, MF makes the shots go much faster.

That being said, one of my two new cameras was bought for event work where speed and AF are important enough.

Just waiting on it... anyday now....

You guys are going way too fast. Maybe the mods could reduce posting speed by at least 40% between 2200 and 0400 GMT. Thanks.

I actually hate the Bron mount but I'd put up with it if in soma magical world I upgraded to Broncolor.

Don't like LCD screens? :P But yeah, I would go for Profoto as well I think, the mount looks much better than any other I have seen.

I dislike the mount, and I don't want a pack that needs more commands to do what I want than an old Commodore 64 ;) I also dislike the button controls (same with Eli)

Welcome back Rob. There was talk of strips lights, Student discounts, Brown shoes, Profoto and keychains. A few people put pictures up and I am not sure I was one of them.

Canada aslo seems to be the best place for new gear now.

I approve this very accurate summary.

Sorry you did not say you wanted one. :(

They were $150 USD each. They came with the mola ring for elinchrom already on there and they also come with the sock (added bonus Simon!). I am not trying to make money. I have email proof that is what I paid for them. (Simon owes me a favor I may cash in on though haha)
One is going to Simon (spxxx) because he said he wanted one. Martin (FJ Love) passed on the deal. Aaron passed on the deal due to budget but I am going to offer the dish I have now the maxilite with grid for the same price I paid sheldon N for it if it is OK with sheldon N.

You missed out on BD day/week :(

We are having strip light with grids next week I think. :)

You can have the container mine is in if you want though :D I have to find a bag or something for it. They are from Mola USA
