I know I could call PW, but I'd rather hear from third party end users and not from the people that sell the product.

When using the PW TTL system can you still access all the flash controls via the camera flash menu (i.e. zoom, flash output levels etc)? According to PW literature when using the TTL system the camera thinks a flash is sitting atop the camera, so hence my question. If not, what are the limits?

Here's the reason I ask.

I have two 580 exIIs and have read that I may need to use their sock over the flash, which covers the flash controls. So if I go manual with the flash I want to know if I can make changes (i.e. zoom, output settings etc.) from the camera menu without having to remove the sock from the flash to make changes. I am aware they have the AC-3 controller, but want to know if I still have control at the camera. Any other input on this system would be greatly appreciated

Thanks...Al

Can you control zoom from camera menu when using flash on top of the camera? I guess not (I have old cameras). Forget the sock, get AC7 shield if you need one. I use to use small eTTL cord when using flexTT5 and 580-exII.

from what I have read, the sock or the hard shields are more important the further away the flash is from the camera. I have a Flex, Mini TT1, AC3 and 580EX. I have never used the sock. Flash distances have been under 20 feet.

When I use the PWs, half of my flash menu controls in the 60D disappear. I use the AC3 to control power level remotely.

Dont use the sock. if you gonna shoot manual using the Flex/Mini, you are better off not using the Flex/Mini or pick up the AC3 so you have full control in front of you while using the Flex/Mini.

Yes, I can control zoom, flash output, fec - pretty much I can do what the flash can do.

Yeah I've read that, too. I don't plan to use them at great distances, at least not yet. I will initially use them without the sock and test to see my working range.

Which controls are still available in the camera flash menu?

I plan to use both manual and TTL. Will the AC7 interfere with mounting on the Cheetah 24 softbox - it appears the flash sits higher now.

Thanks for the feedback.
