I hate 8x10s... I wish everyone would just start selling frames in 8x12 but still label them 8x10. Then johnny idiot public would never notice and we could just fill the frame how we wanted the composition to be and not worry about silly cropping

For many, artistic composition is not important - "I jus' want me a purty pitcher..."! ![]() haha it happened one time, and it was an ugh why did you do that kind of moment. I was thinking I hope no one sees this haha. BUT there is always worse. Like if you were to sell the digital file and the squash the picture and distort it, that REALLY looks bad. Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

Here is my crop of Pham's bride. Notice how the two windows and the bride create one triangle of lighter tonality and the floor, soldier image and chest create a counter balancing triangle of darker tonality. There is also a lighter to darker tonality across the image. And, the bride is positioned off center to add some visual dynamics. Looks great - I follow the theory you're describing but most of all, I like the way it looks. Kevin

I tend to print my stuff full frame. But then again, I did a project last year for a book. Page size was 9x12 and double page spread was 9x24. Designer wanted images that could be used either way. The book was for a Golf Club's centennial and most of the double page spreads were course pictures so the key was creating a composition in camera that worked full frame but could also be cropped into a pano if required. That's where the grid lined screen for a 5DII comes in handy. I love some 8x12 frames. I just replaced a lot of my old 8x10 frames with 8x12 not too long ago, I like them much more. --Bone | FSS

I can't wait to upgrade again so that I have them once more. Put scotch tape on the LCD. Take a piece of 4x6 paper, then mark it with a pen to 4x5 and fill the viewfinder then take a shot and look at it on the LCD. Now put a piece of tape on each side where the pen marks are and you have a nice quick reference for 4x5 with the full frame as 4x6. David | Sharing my Insights, Knowledge & Experience

Used a Hassy with 150mm lens all the time for portraits. I was talking to a local pet photographer, well known guy who also loves square. He has his assistant import his images from Canon 1Ds into Lightroom and applies a square crop on import. I've thought about doing that, but so far its just as easy to crop the keepers. ![]() That's a pretty good trick there, I have wanted to order some screen protectors for my screen I guess I could just write on those, Thanks for the tip, I think this will work pretty well for me. I don't care to put tape on as the adhesive is a pain in the butt to get off later on. --Bone | FSS
