I have three lenses which cover pretty much all the current ranges I need.

EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM
EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 USM IS
EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

I also have a Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 DGX AF 1.4x Teleconverter for a little extra reach on the 70-200.

I've been into digital SLR world for 1.5 years. I started with a 1000D and then added a 500D.

Lenses:
18-55mm (one non- and one IS)
75-300mm (I know, I know, but I still have it)
50mm f1.8 (x2 - can't beat the nifty 50 for the value)
100mm f2 (what a GREAT lens)
70-200mm f4 L IS (what a REALLY GREAT lens)
28mm f2.8
35-70mm Macro
500mm Cheapo mirror lens with fixed f8
old 400mm Sigma that only works on digital at 5.6 (wide open)

A small assortment of Canon FD lenses left over from the AE1P that I got in the 80s plus an FD to EF adapter.

As you might guess, collecting (or accumulating) lenses is a separate hobby for me!

Canon 50mm f/1.4
55-250mm f/4-5.6
18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

Haven't touched the 18-55 since I bought the 50mm. The 55-250 came with a package deal Amazon was running. Only used it a couple times. Good lens for the price, but not something I need for what I prefer to shoot...

no offense Explanet - but the title of the thread is specifically about gear.

None taken, I was responding to the someone else's post, not the title.

It's possible they like to come to this forum to talk about gear while either keeping their photos private or sharing and discussing on another site such as Flickr,MM, etc. Do they need to prove they are worthy of their gear?

Nobody certainly needs to prove they are worthy to buy something they can afford. But you have to wonder about so much overlapping gear and why? I can afford 3 BMWs, but I only have one.

7D
85 f/1.8
Sigma 30 f/1.4
24-105L
70-200 f/4L IS

The zooms don't see much action and I wonder why I keep them (especially when they are worth so much). The 24-105 is nearly on the chopping block. Just trying to decide what I would replace it with and how that kit would work for me... The 24-105 is a fantastic walk around outdoors, but most of my shooting is indoors of the kids and I usually mount the 85 and get some great candid portraits.

Canon 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon 55-250mm IS
Sigma 150-500mm
Sigma 600mm Mirror lens

The Sigma 150-500 is my first significant purchase as far as laying down real money on a lens. Most money I've spent since putting down money for the 7D.
