Congrats on the new camera, I'm envious, but very happy for you. Enjoy it :)

I'm really so very pleased even excited with the results I get with mine. Almost all shots are keepers as far as focus. I soon picked up the changes from my 10D. In fact I used my 10D as a back up camera recently so to save lens changes and I had to try to remember how to use it again. It felt like a toy in comparison.
good luck with your new camera

Well it's arrived :)

And despite all the comments and advice on this forum, I guess you are never really ready for the difference between a pro-sumer body and a pro body - it's a different world. :)

The 10D has served me well for the past three years on fashion shoots, airshows, motor races etc but the 1D just feels different, a bit heavier but somehow much more solid. The shutter sounds like a rifle click compared to the 10D - much more precise.

The menus are different, but in a strange way even more logical - though it will take a while to get used to them.

All I have to do now is put it to work. !! I have two fashion shoots this weekend, fortunately both on location, so it will give me more time between shots to work my way through the various options (I've already explained about the new kit to the models, so they will cut me some slack and at least wont think I've suddenly lost the plot !!)

Hopefully be able to post up some images early next week

:)

How can you possibly afford this. Are you a proffesional, and did your company purchase it for you?

I just got an 'end of line' 1DMK11 (not an N so I saved a bit of cash) and its very impressive. The odd thing is that so far I get the best pictures when I turn off the fancy features and use it like my older 20D. I think thats me not the camera though. If I set to 8fps I get at least two shots even if I just brush the button so I use 5fps for now. Similarly the autofocus is awesome, but sometimes it hits the wrong thing and I don't realise, especialy in ai servo where it doesn't use the red lights. So I have been using the centre spot only sometimes. I think I need more practice with this camera until I learn to get the best out of it - so I will have to take loads more pictures but thats OK after all its what I bought it for!

Well, if you mean do I get paid for my photography - yes I do - but never enough :)

But I tend to look at it from the point of view that whereas some people will pay much more than that to join a club where they can spend lots of time hitting a small ball across a field, I get much more pleasure out of taking photographs of old aeroplanes or cars being put through their paces by consumate professionals - and when I'm not doing that, I get to spend the day working with attractive women. :)

Good value in my book - but then again I'm old and when you get to my age, things take on different priorities. :)

Good luck! I did the same thing not too long ago, and boy what a camera! I use it mainly for portrait/fashion, and couldnt be more happy about it. Takes a few days getting familiar with though. Have fun!
