After a lot of deliberation I have this lens on order and am looking forward to posting some of my results with this lens. I really appreciate all the contributions on this thread thus far (and want to see more!). 28mm is, for me, a perfect focal length in a lot of respects. And the Distagon's ability to focus very close to the lens with wide apertures offers the lens a tremendous field of creative possibilties.

Am I the only one here?

sorry buddy, still in russia. digging the lens, but it might not be a keeper. I ended up bringing the zeiss 21, 28, 50mp, 100mp and the canon 70-200 2.8II. every day a different combo-- today is 50 only, after a backbreaker yesterday at peterhof with the 21, 28 and zoom.

I think my future travels will be the 16-35, 50mp, and 70-200, and optionally (kit 2) the 21, zeiss 24-85 (3.5-4.5), 100 mp. maybe i keep the 35ze for this kit. (sorry I deleted my gear list due to ex-wife issues), but this means goodbye to the rokkor 58 1.2 and maybe 28. changing primes sucks, and I have these mid fl's covered with zeiss already.

That sounds like an ideal prime kit to go have some FUN!

Nice and sharp. While reviewing this scene I wondered if the lens produced any CA due to the over-exposed sky, but I zoomed in and can see the answer is "yes"...but it doesn't look too bad.

^^ Even the best lenses will show some CA in harsh lighting conditions. This is no exception.

But, as you said, it’s not that bad.

How does this lens compare to the Zeiss 35/2 or even 50/2 as far as vignetting, sharpness at close distances (around 3-5 feet), colors, contrast? Thank you.

Zeiss 28/2 shows more vignetting wide open than MP 50/2.

In my opinion, MP 50/2 is slightly sharper than 28/2. Colors and contrast are very similar.

^ Wonderful colors.

Plus one. :) Although, I would've like to see more of the scene with a wider lens. Look at all that gorgeous light! :)
