I was reading on forums how Paypal scammers can BUY stuff, and then report to Paypal that they were lied to, and paypal will yank the money from the sellers credit card and hold it til the matter is settled. I assume you contacted Paypal and told them what was up? Did they say anything?

Sure, it's a few pages back, but it was a user on here who has since been banned. Apparently I wasn't the only one he scammed and someone else reported him. I received a PM from an admin notifying the user was a scammer.

I sent my money via paypal gift, not knowing my payment wasn't insured if sent that way. I found out shortly after sending the payment and hoped for the best. Didn't turn out like I hoped though. I probably would have been able to get my money back if I hadn't sent the money as a gift. Lesson learned.

was it giga77? If so, I was that other person, paypal refunded me this morning though

No I can't contact them because it was sent as a gift. Their complaint page wouldn't let me report anything and told me to contact the seller directly.

Yep it was giga77! Ah you're lucky you sent it the regular way and got it covered.

It was a hard lesson learned... I could've springed for a mk2 if I would've kept those $1k and put them towards my current purchase along with what I have saved for it. Ah well... moving on.

Might be possible, who knows. I'm going to try though. (S)he was going by a woman's name in the emails but I'm doubt it's accurate. I researched the name a little and found someone but I don't think it's them. We'll see what I can do though.

Good luck - please keep us posted. Scam artists like this should be punished. I wonder whether Paypal will help - I've found them to be extremely unhelpful in the past. Why don't you refer it to the police and see what they say?
