Considering snakes are my favourite subject I've got hundreds of photos that I could add to this thread. . . . so I'll just add the last one I took.
A juvenile Adder measuring just 18cm on the cliff-tops of the Southern Coastline in the UK.

Loads of snake shots on my website if anyone's interested.
Best regards,
Jason

Its definitely not a rat snake. This is a Mississippi Green Water Snake (Nerodia cyclopion), a lot cooler than most rat snakes IMO. I've only seen one of them ever. They are threatened in parts of their range. One way to help tell these apart from other water snakes is that the eyes of this snake sit more on top of the head, maybe an adaptation to be able to see better while exposing less of the head while in water.

Thanks for the correct ID. I live in Houston and I've never heard of this snake until now. There were dozens of them along the highway and many more were dead from people puposely running them over.

Hi Aaron1987. Thanks for checking out my site. I'm glad you like my photos. I've always liked snakes but it's only the last few years that my passion has really grown. You have so many snakes to study in Australia, it makes me quite jealous!
