In my backyard, Because I know NOTHING about birds, and I am quite embarrassed about it could someone casually say what it is?

Any one here would dream of such a sight in the backyard. I am not too good on ID's but my guess would be a Red-tailed Hawk, beautiful bird, also I think maybe what was a rabbit?

Looks like an osprey to me. Great shot and in your own backyard, no less!

You have a great shot of a young Red-tailed Hawk (hence the lack of red tail). It's probably the most common hawk to be seen eating squirrels and other such mammals.
The Osprey is a totally different bird all together which feeds solely on fish and would not be seen far from water.

Very nice shot. If you feel like messin with it, I would pump up the saturation a bit and a touch of contrast.

Him looking right at you is so cool.
