oh goodness, i think i consider myself as a newbie in terms of photoshop skill

:o:o
OK, I suspected as much
!
Trying to do this without having learned the skills involved will likely be messy and discouraging. In fact, it's been so long since I did any "serious" Photoshop work that I myself would likely botch it.
But, people do stuff like this all the time. Post the two shots here and people can show you what can be done and give you good advice in how to approach this.
Then, the question will be how will the image be used? If you only need an image that will be good for the Web and, say, a 4x6 print, well, those small sizes can be very "forgiving" of any slips in technique. But if you are talking about a good-size print, that calls for more care in "Photoshopping".
If you are needing a high quality "fix" that can stand up to being printed fairly large, then I'd suggest doing what a member here did recently: After posting the images and getting feedback (and realizing that if you really are new and inexperienced with "Photoshopping") you could arrange with a contributor whose work you are liking to make a PayPal gift to them. This offer actually led the contributor to decline but request that the donation be made to POTN (believe it or not this site does cost money even though it is "free" to us users
!). Everyone got warm and fuzzies from that!
