Similar to other celebrations, especially the Quincenera, but it's a girl's 18th birthday - coming-of-age, age of maturity, new adult presented to society. Hence, it is also known as Debutante Ball. It got the name because of the celebrant/debutante, in a extravagant ball gown, with her escort, in tuxedo, and party of 9 pairs, in a formal attire like a bridal party, perform the Grand Cotillion Dance or a classic waltz. Nowadays, the dance is becoming more modern. She is then presented with 18 candles by her closest girlfriends and 18 roses by the male escorts. The usual father and daughter dance, the cake, etc.
