Have you registered your photography name, if so, how do you go about it?

Go to City Hall (or whatever the UK equivelant is), walk up to the desk, ask "what do I need to do to register a fictitious business name". The requirements may vary based on where you live so unless someone here lives in your city it's hard to give accurate advice.

My situation was pretty simple. Went in to the County Clerk's office. Asked for a DBA (Doing Business As). $10 and 15 minutes later I was out the door. I don't remember what all I needed. I think I needed 2 forms of ID (Drivers Lic. & Birth Cert.)

Yeah, it was way different for me. I didn't have to register my Photography biz because I just used my name, but I did for another business. I believe it was a single form and a $30 fee. Then I had to run a blurb in a paper for 4 weeks. Then I got a confirmation thing from the paper and I had to submit that to finalize it.

Pretty much the same in Illinois. After registering with the county offices I needed to place a legals ad in a newspaper that had to run for 3 wks. Then my business certificate came in the mail.

You may need that certificate to open a business banking account. You want to have a separate business bank account as one way to show the IRS that you are operating as a real business. They don't want hobbyists trying to take tax deductions.
