I left my hood shade on a resort outside balcony and it blew away. Anyone know where you can buy them cheaper then sigma? If I find a used one with a filter size of 77mm for another sigma lens would that work also? Its for a sigma 50mm 1.4

Its for a sigma 50mm 1.4 If you want to find sources, don't search for "hood shade". Search for "lens hood". Skip Douglas

Its for a sigma 50mm 1.4 Filter size is only pertinent to the threading. Don't make the assumption that the Sigma Hoods are interchangeable, my 85 and 50 aren't. ....the best camera is the one you have on you at the time.

The hood from Sigma is 20.00 plus 8.00 shipping. Unique sells an OEM hood from sigma (same part number) for $13.00 plus .91 for tax (I live pretty close). Look 'em up online... dmadson.photoreflect.com

But in most cases a hood is designed for use with only one lens. These are good important points. You need to get a replacement for the focal length of your lens as well as the thread size...and in fact different manufacturers have different hoods for particular focal lengths - for example the older Sigma 24-70 lens has a fairly shallow petal hood while a Canon 24-70L has a very deep hood...you must make sure the replacement you get is specific to your lens otherwise you'll run the risk of excessive flare or heavy vignetting. www.mikegreenphotography.co.uk

And the only time my hoods come off is so I can reverse it for the lens to go in the camera bag...can't blow off that way Jeremy

Aug 24, 2011 12:00 | #12 Thanks everyone..I just sucked it up and ordered one from sigma..still not happy about it! I took a sunset shot on the 4th floor balcony in a holiday in resort at 7AM and my lens kept fogging up so I removed the hood to wipe it off with my camera cloth and forgot it on the seat..then 2hours later wind picked up. I always wanted a sunset shot so i guess it as worth it. HMM now that i look at it I might have to straiten the horizon a tad.
