If so, get an inexpensive USB 3.0 card reader...much faster than firewire 400 OR 800. Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever!

Or if not, you could get an inexpensive USB 3.0 adapter card or similar doohickey for your imac. I know B&H sells an inexpensive usb 3.0 card reader for around $30 or so. Just a thought. its an IMAC so not changing the card and no usb 3 any one else with a real suggestion "canon---- there is no substitute"

That's called reality which I believe is closely related to "real." It's the price you pay to have a system that "just works" as I so often hear it referred to. I guess it isn't working so well for you right now though. Sometimes in our euphoria we overlook the little things that add up to be a pia in life. That's reality. There is a price to pay for every decision made in life. Even the ones like pc vs. mac. Unreasonable prices is one of the prices you pay for mac. Getting upset over it won't help you at all. It's a continue to pay the price or get out situation. That in a nutshell is my "real" suggestion for you. Good luck with it. materialism ~

Aug 24, 2011 12:44 | #6 ok luciddreeamer ... thanks for the sarcastic response. just saying "oh you have a mac your screwed" is not a real answer. and saying use a usb 3 or firewire 400 doesnt help me either because of my Imac limitations so those are not real solutions. I am not afraid to spend $$ My original post was referring to any suggestions anyone might have for a fire wire 800 "canon---- there is no substitute"

I bought it for under $100.00 a year and a half ago, but they don't make them anymore. I've only seen one place that still has them in stock, but they are asking $189.99 for them. A couple of other companies use to sell them as well, like Hoodman and Lexar. Not sure where to find them anymore? I know one of our local camera shops had a bunch of the Hoodman firewire card readers in stock last year so you might be able to find one around where you live too? http://www.google.com …8d9d53c2&biw=1600&bih=690 Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III | 17-40mm f/4.0L | 70-200mm f/2.8L USM | 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro | 300mm f/4.0L IS

As I remember there is a third port thunderbolt hub that has FW 800 ports...but not USB 3. So for the IMAC I would think use a FW800 reader in a native FW800 port....or via a thunderbolt hub if you can find one. Last resource is old slow USB 2. Use USB 2 for keyboards and mice or maybe printers.
