As my wife put it trust is always a big issue, which she say's she doesn't have a problem. then went on to say,but put yourself in my position. How would you like it if I was going away to shoot male models a lot younger that you are? So I can see her point.....I told if it bugs ya at anytime, just come along. Having an extra hand or eye is nice.

Personally, my wife was very skeptical at first, for no reason beyond personal insecurity. I tried to convince her to let me shoot her, she continuously declines. Instead, I booked a shoot and asked her to assist. She had a great time, and realized that as the pictures get better and better, there's no time to think about temptation - it's about aperture, shutter speed, lighting and ISO.

She thinks that it's awesome that my hobby has turned into a side job, and even bought me subscriptions to Maxim and Playboy for additional ideas!

Now that's how it's suppose to be. With that kind of support it won't be long before she steps in front of the camera. If she's anything like my wife, when I had to hire models for our bike business, she bitched and bitched about it, I said hey, it's an image thing and a draw. The first show she delt with the models, had a great time and that became her job.

A relationship needs trust. If your significant other has a problem with you working with models of the opposite sex, it is a sign of trust issues.
Personally, I would never be in a relationship with someone who doesn't trust me. Such a relationship is doomed to fail. It is only a matter of time.

No resistance at all. Carry your self as a professional as you should be and their is nothing to worry about.

Agree with both.

gawd... how did I miss this conversation.

My wife has tolerated model shoots, but has confidence issues. She's had 2 kids, and says her body can't compete with them 20-something perky girls. I've told her repeatedly she doesn't have to compete; that she's the one I married, they are the ones I use to market my skills. It's not any better after 4 yrs, even though I'm hugely better at shooting than I was 4 yrs ago.

it boils down to trust, but it's also about personal security, or insecurity, as it were. Having models in studio that can be perceived by your SO can make them doubt their own worthiness. I try to work on making her happy in everything else so she feels better about us.

Lol here's what my wife sprang on me, kinda funny. My wife said she doesn't have any issues, after 32 yrs if she can't trust me then somethings wrong. The she said, let me add this.......how would you feel if I was getting dressed up and going out doing models shoots with hot photographers? I said is this a paying job?? No I didn't say that lol

But does make ya think.....I'd have some what of a very very tiny issue

I would have absolutely no problem with that. I trust her.
And if it was something she wanted to do, I would have no right to say otherwise.

I took her along to a couple of shoots and she started coming around, once she realised how professional the whole deal was.

My wife was on the fence about it. I took her along on a shoot as well. And it was not that it was so "professional" but that it is rather down right UNsexy to try to make the pictures look so sexy. A busy set is the last place to try anything. It is just not an enviroment for that kind of thing. Even with a model in just underware there is so little attention on the model and you cant see the rest when looking at pictures in a magazine. With all the lights and flags and stands and tripod and laptop surrounding the model. And even when actually shooting half the attention is looking if anything needs to be adjusted.

It is simply a case of... and perfect example of.... what is not in the frame doesent get seen. Many SO's think it is just you and a half naked model chatting and flirting while taking pictures. When there is so much more to a shoot that the interaction with the model is like 10% of everything. There is no referance for them to know all that is actually going on outside the frame.

I agree with your last statement 100%.I honestly just don't look at the subject in that matter. I look at the lighting and the shot and the end results. Weird, one would think since most men are horn dogs, you'd be checking out the T&A and it just isn't that way.

is there some photographer out there trying to get a hook up? sure there is. BUT... this is not the seventies where being a photographer is the cool thing to do. You don't have to hook up with a photographer to get pictures.

I've shot with my wife as the subject, but in that case I was EXPECTING the hookup. Shooting with someone else as the subject and her in the room isn't a good idea, and I'll offer my opinion why. If your subject picks up that your wife/SO doesn't trust you and has to chaperon you, then the model is going to pick up that vibe too, and possibly not trust you also. Her being uncomfortable will show thru in the pictures.

My ex wife hated me shooting models! My current significant other doesn't give it a thought and actually enjoys coming to shoots sometimes.

anyone end up marrying or dating a model they shot? wonder how they would feel, knowing the shoot was the start of your relationship and id think that would give them more concern

Zero problem here.

Been married 30 years and my 20 something models could all be my daughters. My 30 and 40 somethings are all well settled and not out hunting (at least for me).

She also understands, as do I, that I may see 20 something and gorgeous, they see 58 year, white haired bowling ball. Not a lot of threat going on there.:D

Also, she's been on several shoots with me and is invited anytime. She's seen how decidedly UNsexual a sexy photoshoot is.

A good friend of mine has a studio in his house and his wife laughed about how coming home to a naked woman is no big deal. Now THAT'S a confident woman.

I'd never marry a woman who would have a problem with it.
