Steve Jobs isn't leaving apple. He is stepping down from CEO to Chairman of the board

That is a save-face move to keep the stock from plummetting too far. I'm pretty certain Steve intends to focus on family and health. I'd wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't hang around Apple near as much as he used to.

This is a well planned transition, but I am fairly confidant that, for him to do this, means that his situation is dyer and his contributions to Apple are about decline significantly. Starting now, he is not really a player at Apple.

The guy is a genius and will go down as a legend, I think, on par with Edison.. but I am extremely sad to conclude that the number of days he has left is pretty small.

Apparently so, the stock only dropped about 1-2points so far...this surprises me

Me too! I have a little, I haven't sold mine yet.

I saw a fairly recent program where they interviewed Jobs and Gates on the same stage. The interviewer asked each what they admired about the other. Gates said, I think very sincerely, that he admired Jobs' sense of style. Whatever Jobs said, it wasn't memorable, or I recall thinking at the time, very sincere. I was left thinking that, as brilliant as he is, Jobs really couldn't come up with anything. :)

Exactly! and I think that may hurt Apple in a few years. The new CEO is supposed to be worthy of running the company, but lacks the vision that jobs has

It is too bad for him as it is clear his health has not improved and Apple is his passion and love. I suspect an orderly and capable transition is in place, so I am sure Apple will do just fine.

Best, Bruce

You obviously picked up on the word 'yet' -- that is exactly what I am thinking. My guess is profits will be good for a year or two.

The problem is that their product line goes about 2 years out. The "new" developments that they create without Jobs having a big hand in it wont be seen for a while

I do not apologize if you have a heart attack watching this, it is utterly grim.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is just a shop

Remember - Cook was the guy that developed and implemented the retail strategy and developed the store model. Not Jobs.

What I find interesting when I go into an Apple store is that, first its crowded, second, there is staff to handle the traffic, and third everyone is buying not shopping.

Jobs will be missed but Apple is a long way from decline. IBM is bigger now than when T Watson was running it, GE has survived Welsh's retirement, and the list goes on.

He has a great mind for product development but he also developed some outstanding teams, and instilled a strong culture for innovation. That will be his legacy as much as the MAC, iPhone and iTunes.

I'm a happy Mac user, so i'm not knocking Apple as a brand as it seems increasingly the trend to do nowdays (how dare they make computers that are fast and reliable without the need to download anti-virus software every five minutes); I just cringed as I have never cringed before seeing the sterile excitement of absolutely everyone in than video.

I actually can't step foot in Mac stores anymore; I find them so crowded and noisy I can't actually think, let alone evaluate parting with large amounts of money, but something you picked up on which I have to completely agree on; people are buying not shopping. Which would suggest their minds have already done the shopping and they are simply doing the buying. So I guess you don't actually have to do any thinking or evaluating.

I have come full circle, and may have to go to a Mac store tomorrow and stand in one for a while, just because

Wow. I knew his health wasn't the best, but was there ever a public announcement of what Jobs was battling? I remember he took a short "break" a year or two ago also.
