well, I downgraded my gear to where I now only have my 5D II and the 50L. a newborn can really put a dent in one's hobby

Same thing has happened to me except I still have the pieces of MF glass. I sold off my 24-70 to get the 135, and the youngest decides to get sick, and bills decide to show up in the mailbox, and...you get the picture. I did let the wife know what was gonna happen when we had the spare money again for the 135...well, I'm sure most know how that goes. Hopefully she will one day recognize my sacrifice and take pity upon my poor soul...one can dream right?

Love the texture, color, contrast Helena. This is by far THE lens I could ever dream to be stuck with, to be with only one piece of glass.

I just received the lens today! Such a cool and great lens! Focusing is weird on it, almost to the point where everything is clear in the viewfinder then when you take the picture @ 1.2, nothing is in focus or what you want to be in focus isn't.

And then I wanted to just play around and make an HDR.

Well, that is because it is at 1.2 -- You'll learn to use it.

I'd recommend the super matte precision focusing screen. It definitely helps with focusing.

my wife was actually sad when I told her I was selling off a bunch of my gear. we could get by without me having to do that, but it just makes it a bit easier :-)

she knows once things settle down I will be building my kit back up.

Thank you! Yes, 50L is wonderful. I only wish that it were 35mm instead... :) I much prefer that focal length and would love a 35mm lens with 50L rendering.

I have to agree here... I recently became a lover of the 50mm FL on FF. If I could only have one lens ever it would be a 50mm prime and seeing as it would be my only lens minus well make it an L lens lol. I think at some point I might trade up my Sigma 50 for a 50L.

Now I thought you had the 35L, am I wrong? Anywho, I don't think I have ever shot with a 35mm. I did have the 24-70, but was usually at the extremes on that zoom. Would definitely like to try it out. I will just have to make sure it is after I have the 135 so that I am not tempted to jump the 135 and get the 35 next.

Yes, I have 35L too and because I prefer that focal length I use it ten times as often. It is an amazing lens too, but renders differently than 50L. Both are sharp, but 50L is more "gentle" while 35L is more "crisp". Sometimes I really like that crisp look, but sometimes it can be a bit harsh. I guess I really need two 35mm lenses. He he! 35L and one that is less constrasty.

As you can see, a single pass through USM and it sharpens up really nice...
