From my first family shoot. Well, the daddy wasn't there because this was supposed to be a surprise birthday gift to him. It was so hard trying to keep the kids interested in the shoot.

1st family shoot? Great job on these.. they have emotion, personality, and interesting to look at, and technically sound. :)

I bet the daddy is going to be thrilled with them!

Thanks all! Yes it's my first one. I just did it for my neighbor whom I offered a free session so that I can get some experience shooting people. She finally cashed in on it. So far, I did an engagement session (external link) for some friends and a Chinese opera (external link) for a coworker. I am starting to look to maybe do this as a side business but I may have a ways to go on that.

Really nice shots. You captured some great moments and expressions.

My only comments are on the processessing. Generally, the shots look great, but I would tone down the vignette in pretty much all of them. Also, I like the B&W conversions, but the mid tones might be a touch dark.

Thanks moeronn, for the comments! I need pointers like that. Maybe I should also calibrate my monitor. Sometimes it looks fine but not so on other monitors.

Very nice! For your first time, you did better than many on their 2nd or 3rd!

There ain't gonna be enough time to capture all the beautiful thing in the world, but I'm getting them one by one...

lol. I think you did better than many on their 101st...

I like the vignettes. This is something that isn't 'right' or 'wrong' but simply a subjective opinion. I happen to like them but the trend is away from vignetting right now it seems.

I LOVE the simplicity of these portraits. The focus is on the subjects and not on distracting backgrounds or anything else. Yes, at the beach I suppose you could have had a little more DOF and it wouldn't have hurt. Looks foggy? That's always a pretty cool look. Very isolating for the subject matter and creates a neat feel. I think you did a great job! ;)

I would prefer #2 as a horizontal shot. Not crazy about 3, but 4 is a winner for sure and love the use of negative space there. Watch that your compositions aren't TOO centered... I think that's why 4 has more appeal...
