I'd suggest doing a thorough focus test with your Sigma 17-50 2.8.

I got one several weeks ago for my 7D and found that it would not focus properly using the outer focus points while in the middle of the zoom range. I tried another copy at a camera store and it did the same thing. Another member of this forum reported the same thing as well.

It's a great lens if it will play nice with your camera.

Mike

I did my homework before selecting the lens and have been thoroughly testing the lens in various scenarios (low light, with and without flash, different AF points, different AF modes). So far all appears to be working well. Thanks for the heads up though!!!

I just did something that I thought I would never do; I sold both of my 1D bodies and ALL of my lenses! EVERYTHING!!!!! At one point in time I was shooting several weddings per year, several events, lots of bicycle races and portraits. My day time job has become so demanding that I have not been able to pickup any photography jobs in quite some time.

I replaced everything with a 7D, Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS, Sigma 10-20, and a Canon 70-200 f/4. This will give me good enough equipment in case my work load lightens and I am able to start photographing events again. It's been a long time since I've been without a 1D. I never thought I'd say it but I'm kind of looking forward to the 7D!!!:)

I have found the 7D to be an incredibly capable camera for action/motorsports.

My only uncertainty is how it would do in situations where high ISO is needed, since there is a fair amount of noise compared to any of the 1 series cameras, even at ISO 100.

The 7D just feels fresher, in its feature set and its customizability. Having had a 7D next to a 1d4 and 5d2, I kept thinking back to "the 7D can do this, why can't these"? Of course the 7D is newer than the 5D2, and the 1D4 was already in the middle of its design cycle when they started the 7D design (they most likely started the 1D4 design once they figured out the 1D3 AF issues), so the 7D is newer than both.

It will be interesting to see where the 1D series heads, if the rumors hold any water at all.

I totally agree! The 7D feels much fresher!!! It is a nice little, feature packed body that CAN do what my 1D bodies did (and then some). The only thing that I feel like I'm lacking is the fully sealed body but then again, I've only shot in the rain one time with my 1D2. This is the second 7D that I owned. I sold the first one after a few weeks. Since getting rid of it I always asked the same thing, "The 7D can do that, why can't these?" BTW...I'm not bashing the 1D2 or 1D3 in any way. I captured and sold hundreds of photos shot with both.
