Although I predicted it (but as the G14, http://lightdescription.blogspot.com …wershot-g-prediction.html (external link)) for this time frame, many people believe that the G series has been terminated and that a new series will come out sometime next year. Supposedly, the new series (which I call GX) will be competitive with the compact interchangeable lens camera such as micro 4/3.

I have no idea what is to come.

dude, canon's not going to kill off it's G series line when it remains a popular camera at a profitable price point. At sub $500, canon is still making a profit and satisfying consumers. It creates a fictious competition between the G and S series by offering image quality vs super zoom capabilities which there are currently less then 6 manufacturers on the market that are in that same area: nikon, fuji, sony, lumix, sony, and (there was one more....)

Canon is aware of potential threats of the interchangable pocketable cams such as the panasonic gh series and the fuji x100, but the key issue is that those cameras are at different price points.

Don't forget that canon has yet to pull out the 1080p card on the G series (even though technically the g12 could handle it right now. In addition, canon can even implement the new HS sensor as it does with it's newest point and shoot line. the g12 already has a hybrid image stabilization borrowed from the 100mm 2.8L IS. and don't forget, canon can always throw the cmos sensor into the G series "revolutionizing the market" in that respect. But canon doesn't want to infringe it's product line.

What will come, will come... I think Canon would seriously miss a trick to kill the small sensor, the market is flooded with capable micro 4/3 cameras, none of them give the optical characteristics of the G.
Must admit I was seriously impressed with the new X10 Linky 1 (external link) and Linky 2 (external link) - now some of those features would look good in a new G!!!

John,

Fuji is making a splash, aren't they? The Fuji X10 does look promising.... as you said.. if Canon were to integrate some of these newer developments in the G series.... that would be nice.

All I want is a G12 with an f/2 lens. Please, Canon, make it happen before Christmas. :) I don't like the S series.

I'd be happy enough with them reducing the zoom range if the max aperture was increased to f/2

Canon rumors is now claiming that there will be no g12 replacement this year, period

These are my wishes too. I was really dissapointed when G12 was released and still not dedicated movie button, or optical zoom on video :(

It's actually really weird that G doesnt have these, cause my old S5 IS has them. I actually kept it only because these.
