Of course, why would you get rid of your bestseller while doing almost nothing?

... 18-55 IS II.

Answer: to make overall production costs CHEAPER without significantly impacting performance.

I still have my mkI circa 1988. It is a wonderful lens. The only non-L that I just cannot see parting.

I picked mine up for $75 used. I stuck it on my camera the other night and went on a little walk about. I can't believe how sharp this lens is. It looks like a cheap toy, but the performance is great. You can't get a good filter for that price.

I kinda wish I had kept my mk1 and sold the f/1.4 instead, but I can probably find another mk1 if I really want one.

Of course you can. Lots of people are trying to sell them (overpriced) on ebay--and people come here and FM thinking they can get $200+ for a metal mount. The MF on the mk1 is pretty useless too--having had 2 copies of the mk1, I still don't see why everyone loves it.

I'm sure enjoying my original made in Japan EF 50 f/1.8 my dad bought with his old EOS film camera and he passed the lens on to me as a sweet gift!

if I'm using 1.2, the focus can go forward or backward since the dang depth of field is so freakin' shallow....if I burp or fart I can miss focus.

Tell me about it, I own the 1.0 and when someone else burps or farts I miss focus :D

somewhere, my 50L is crying. I'm well aware of the thread. I just wanted to see some pictures of the lens itself.

oh yea!!, they will upgrade it. One day they will find a cind of plastic that is even cheaper, make a new lens, and sell it for twice the price.

Uh huh, because they really increased the price of the 18-55mm IS II, right?
