Looking to buy A Manfrotto tripod but not sure which to pick between these two models if you have one of them let me know how you like it .This would be for either the 7D or 5DmkII using the 70-200mkii lens..thanks for any input..want to keep the price around 400-600 dollars.. Last question will all Manfrotto heads fit these legs ?

With very few exceptions all heads will fit all legs. The main difference between your two choices, as you have pointed out, is the sizes. The 190 is smaller at max height and I think folded and is a little lighter, and also cheaper. Also are you after the XPROB versions with the horizontal centre columns or the standard?

This is a great tripod for the money. I use it with a Real Right Stuff head:

Decades ago, the Bogen 3001 was the precursor to the Manfrotto 190, and the Bogen 3021 was the precursor to the Manfrotto 055. The 3001/190 are 'the hiker's tripod', while the 3021/055 are for those who are not needing/willing to compromise their tripod with a sacrifice Height and a bit of solidness in the camera support in exchange for a little weight saving.

I managed to pickup a Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 and a 498RC2 for around $400 on Amazon. it is so much nicer than my cheapo Induro that I've been using for a a few years. I'm 5'8" and this combo at full height (center column NOT extended) is just high enough to get me barely on my tip-toes to look into the viewfinder. A friend bought a 190 series and he has to extend the center column to see into the viewfinder (he's about 5'11")

Interestingly enough, both tripods are about the same weight. I love CF!!!

well found out the biggest difference between the two the 055 is heavier by 2 pounds and taller but holds 17lbs max weight the 190 is lighter ,shorter and holds only 11lbs max weight and with my gear might be close to tolerance so may have to send the 190 back for the 055 wish I would have known that before i placed the order ..and I got the 15% off all tripods that was running last week at bestbuy hope they can adjust my order and switch the two out before shipping ..oh well

Well that's what happens when you rush to buy things without researching them. I hope the exchange goes smoothly for you, wouldn't want you to be stuck with the 190 when it's not strong enough.

Oh, if was a sale it's understandable, we all have those moments where we go for something even if it's not ideal just because the price is good.

Amazon has the 055CXPRO3 (external link) for $329 with free shipping in case anyone is interesting. When I was at Roberts Imaging in Indy a couple of months ago, it was $399. I got mine in a few weeks ago and it's amazing paired with the 498RC2 ballhead.
