I really like the Alpinestar style. It has a big pocket on the back. It doesn't look crazy goofy. Is there something similar that is black like that? Has the padded shoulders. etc.

I want to get a vest and leave the bag in my car. I carry it around now but just want to do something else for comfort and my back. Would like back to be free of logos to apply my own logo...

Thanks guys!

Maybe try hitting up some military surplus stores for molle/tactical vests. Basically do the same thing.

I looked at a military (alice? molle? don't know the type) and it could be adapted wonderfully with pouches and so on but it was very heavy.
I've actually never seen a black photo vest for sale. LL Bean used to have a nice khaki one that had the big back pocket - excellent for rain gear - didn't know you had it until you needed it. I don't think it has been in their catalog for years now.

who gives a rat crap how much gear you can list?

Finding an A-stars vest will be difficult as they only release a few to selected photographers.

However, there are several similar vests - fishermen often have something similar with plenty of big pockets to stash all your stuff.

I have been using the "Combat" vest this year. The material has a flaw in that it unravels behind the seams and leaves strings in the pockets. I've just been clipping them out, but a dedicated person could probably melt the threads with a soldering gun or some such and stop the unraveling. I figure I'll wear it out before the threads disappear. At the price, I could easily replace it each season. I had the cotton "Safari" and while I liked some things about it, I wore holes in it fairly quickly. It also started stinking from sweat, sun screen, and insect repellant after a fairly short period of time, which was OK for the track when I was away from everyone, but not suitable for polite society. I use khaki since it is very hot trackside in Kansas (I measured 120ºF about a month ago) and I figure black is not the best choice for those conditions. When this one wears out, I will buy another just like it.

One other thing I like about the "Combat" vest is that it has zipping inside pockets where I can stash my passport and other things when traveling. I've never trusted an outside pocket or non-zipping inside pocket for that.

I have a Black Photographers Vest from TAMRAC. I bought it almost 20 years ago when I was still doing Weddings. Sort of classy looking, plenty of pockets on the front, 2 large ones built in at Front Bottom. A Snap off Small pocket on the Right Chest location. A Fixed Small pocket (big enough for a Flash Meter) on the Left Chest area. Tripod pocket in lower back. 2 Zippered large pockets inside too. I do not see a Model number, but search for TAMRAC?

Woohoo, first post. Great site!
