Now that 50D has been given the video feature (fullHD at 30fps, better than nothing) it is even more good to buy as second hand.

50d and video? Maybe I missed that button on mine :)
I know the 50d pretty well, my main concern was for the shutter count being 80k and the shutter is rated for 100k

my sister is looking at a 50d w/grip 2 batt and 8gb card for $600us
only thing it has 80k actuations....
Good buy or goodbye
Thanks
Jeff

That price is a too high for the number of actuations the camera is close to the end of it's life... kinda. I Wouldn't pay more than $400-50 the kit. If the shutter goes it will cost about $250 or more to fix.

You could check Canon's refurb page and wait for the 50D to be back in stock... or by a T2i.

Magic Lantern, the firmware, was just updated for the 50D.

That seems a bit steep these days, even with the grip. Browse the FS forums here, you're bound to find a decent deal.

Really thinking about swaping my 550D for a 50D soon, would love the body and speed.. The only thing bothering me would be the ISO performance, but that seems like a fair tradeoff, you just can't get it all! :D

I use mine at 1600 and 3200 pretty regularly without issue.

Not yet, but if you have programming skills you can compile it yourself (source code is available).

Here's the 50D recording video (1080p, 30fps, no sound): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WutAULlNIME (external link)

Do they come in stock often these days? Might check in every now and then.

I check the site couple times a week and haven't seen the 50D in a few months.

The 50D is no longer in production. You still can get one at the Canon refurbished camera store.

Oh, really? I've had this for about 2 years now. Couldn't believe that it's now replaced.

Hello, friends, I've been away from this site and photography for a few years. Too much drama in life. Now I'm catching up.
