Looking to get into studio strobes.
The D-lite 4 IT to go sets look like great value.
Are there any alternatives of equal or better quality for that kind of money?
Or are there any reasons to NOT get the D-lites?

The most popular alternatives are the some of the AlienBee units, but IMO they arent as nice as the Elinchrom strobes nor is their system of accessories. Give the D-Lites a try and get an Elinchrom softbox, you wont be disappointed.

Unfortunately Alien Bee seems to be very hard to come by in Australia.

The dlite is hard to beat at that price. Digital strobe with linear control over the power output, great modifier line of accessories, upgrade path to better gear. Try it, you'll like it!

Under $900 for dlite4.
Forget Alien Bees, been there done that.

Atleast there is a decent upgrade path with elinchrom.

another upside for the Elinchrom gear is the vast amount of additional gear that can be used with a kit like the D-Lite 4 IT.

I shoot with Elinchrom and recently picked up a D-Lite 4 it as a light to use on location and as an extra in the studio.

I've used it a lot and so far I have nothing but good things to say about it.

If you're at all attracted to Elinchrom modifiers then the D-Lite it is a great place to start without breaking the bank.

If you are outside the US, the Elinchrom D-Lite and other models are a great solution.
I ordered some Dlites and, while they are useful, they are rather lightly built. That is probably why they can be sold inexpensively.
Their biggest advantage is the good linear power control and the Elinchrom modifier mount.

If you were in the US I would suggest Einsteins. A bit more expensive but far superior technically and build quality.

The ABs are well built but old technology for power control.
