....I personally own one and believe that it's a good lens but there's no way to compare to L glasses. Of course the comparison is not fair. It's like a race between Ferrari & Lada cars

I disagree.

I compared this lens with my 17-40L and the 18-55 IS is much sharper in the corners and about the same in the center. I also compared it with my 24-105L and got the same result. The main difference between the 18-55 IS and their L counterparts is that the L's are faster, have USM, better build. But the L's also weigh quite a bit more. Optically, the 18-55 IS is actually a very good lens.

Anyone done some extreme exposures, like 30+ minutes with this lense? If so what where your results?

This week I'm hiring a model for a few hours to practice portraits outdoors. Did similar last week, and bought a new Canon 50mm f/1.4 hours before, which was an excellent decision considering the results. This week I hoped for something wide a bit faster than my f/4.0 Tokina, and a Tamron was suggested: Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 SP XR Di II VC

But lacking $600 for a few weeks, this 18-55 came to mind, which I have, but haven't used for a bit. After seeing a lot of the images in this thread, I think it's clarity and f/3.5 end should suffice nicely.

From this lens i think you will get more sharpness at f/5.6 and on the tele side on f/8

some shots from me

Lens is so sharp. But I prefer my 50L WAY over it.

You know I've heard anything stopped down past like 2.8'ish on the 50 1.4 is actually sharper and performs better overall than the L, although I am totally jealous of that piece of glass, I've got the 1.8, great lens too.
