From the comparison between the 2, the mkii was sharper and has the new coatings that reduce flare. That said, the mk1 will still take great photos. I am wierd, so I always like to get the newest stuff regardless of what it is even though the older versions will still work.

If I'm not mistaken, there were pretty annoying CA issues with the mk1 as well. Might seem like no biggie, but it's ruined more than one image on my 85/1.8!

I had the 24L for 3 years then the 24L II came out. Its a very good upgrade, the improvements are noticeable - sharpness and CA. Im a happy 24L II user.

The 24L I is a great lens. It's sharp starting from 1.6. Would I spend the extra on the II? Yes, I wish I did when I bought the I. Will I sell and get the II, probably not because I don't think I would gain that much, plus I use it mostly on my 40D (which is what I bought it for), I've got the 35L for my FF.

Regarding CA, you're going to see it with most fast lenses in high contrast lighting, probably less with the II. One learns to work around it.

Awesome! I think the MK II is a big improvement over the first.
