Hi, have a question that I hope someone can help. Am planning to buy 7D and want to know if it has the same battery as 40D (I currently have 40D). Also, want to know if it uses the same cable release as 40D. Thanks so much for your help.

The cable release should be fine, but the batteries are different and much much better

I use the same canon release on my 7D as on my old 30D so I assume it would work on the 40D

Cable release works on my 40D and 7D. Batteries are not the same.

Yep, cable release will fit and work fine, but the 7D takes a different LP-E6 battery.

The battery life is awesome. I went to an NFL game yesterday with my 7D and 100-400L lens. I charged up two batteries the night before, one in my camera and one in my pocket. I filled up a 32-GB card with about 1400 images, and still had about 30% remaining on the first battery. Never took the second one out of my pocket.
