So this afternoon I took some shots of my two year old chasing our dogs with my 135L in MF. It was definitely a challenge, but something I would probably never do with a MF lens. I did enjoy it though. The focus range is extremely sensitive with this lens, with a MF lens such as the topic lens, is the MF less sensitive? Going to look at those portrait photos now. Jake

What do you mean by less sensitive? :)

i think hes referring to how it seems sensitive because of the really shallow DOF that makes it seem more difficult to find focus or something

idk unless he means the actual focus ring itself is sensitive

yes, the MF lens is less sensitive, if you mean the focus ring throw

depends on the distance as per the topic lens. at 1.2m and above, it's a marginal improvement. at below 1 meter, the 50/2 is super accurate in terms of focus ring throw

I see. I don't have an issue with MF wide open on my 50 MP. I wear contacts and use AF confirm to focus. I don't have a need to use a focusing screen yet. :)

I guess I mean how little throw on the ring adjusts the focus so much. The focus ring on my 135 just seems really sensitive and I was wondering if the Zeiss takes more ring movement to get the same focus adjustment? Sorry if it's still confusing. I think I'm pretty much sold on this lens anyway. I just love the photos it produces and the potential focus shift of the 50L conserns me. Plus for anything under f/2 I can use my 35L or 85L.

Is the AF confirm the flash and beep of the AF points? Mine was doing that today and it took me awhile to figure out what it was doing. If that's what it is, what a cool feature.

yeah, like i said,
the 50 1.4 'should' be more accurate 1m above
about the same at .4m to 1m
and doesn't have macro distances

i'll use an AF lens to do long distances :)

when im doing MF at long distances i just rack my lens to infinity and fine adjust. but im only doing that type of work with a video camera which is easier to focus when you have a nice 5" monitor to use rather than a viewfinder

and i dont need macro which is why the 50 1.4 ZE is more appealing to me that and its cheaper
