The 100 f2 is excellent! ;)

not in my future :) i don't think my eyes can focus at that focal length. besides, i have the 100L

when the new baby comes out, i hope to have a stationary subject for at least a few months :D

when im doing MF at long distances i just rack my lens to infinity and fine adjust. but im only doing that type of work with a video camera which is easier to focus when you have a nice 5" monitor to use rather than a viewfinder

and i dont need macro which is why the 50 1.4 ZE is more appealing to me that and its cheaper

what pushed me to the f/2 over the f/1.4 (apart from the recommendations here) was the macro and f/2 vs f/2 performance. if you don't have a use for macro, then that's one less point for the f/2.

i'll try the 50/2 on my 600D it's got what looks to be a bigger LCD than my 5D2 (albeit the same 3" spec)

I realize this is all about the 50mm MP,

BUT, if you can find a minolta rokkor-x 50mm f/1.2... They too are an awesome lens. I got SUPER lucky to pick the ONE that was sold here 6 months ago and was modified by Jim Buchanan(lens god).

It was only 360$... Saddly it is not the 58mm f1.2. And thus has only 6(ouch) aperture blades.

So, for the budget minded person looking the minolta makes sense...

If your budget includes the 50MP from all accounts it is amazing.

However UNLIKE Jdizzle, I STRONGlY recommend a focusing screen. Personally I use a split prism as it leaves NO question of focus accuracy- the picture is either together or not.

And everything just looks cooler eith a split prism screen too.

Only shoot wide open.

Well, a focusing screen will help if you're eyes are bad. :)

Yeah they are. But even with contacts or glasses or the diopter adjusted, a split prism just helps snap focus(I feel). And it looks KILLER with a fast autofocusing lens(70-200)

Almost makes you feel like a baller(at least I do)

And now I want a 50MP. Darnit.

The 50MP is excellent, however you may want to soften up the photo in post as zeiss microcontrast tends to bring out details that people may not like ;P

Well, I just placed the order, you guys are bad influences.....well, ok, I was probably going to order it, you all just made me feel better about doing so. I am looking forward to the MF experience. Might even start looking for some of the older MF leses, although I see that being a side addiction in the making....Can't wait to start using this lens.....thanks again.....Jake

WOW, Holy cow, I love this lens. The colors and contrast is just beautiful, I haven't even had the chance to wring it out....Just shooting snapshots of the kids around the house. Completely amazed, no need for PP on any of them. It's not quite as sharp as my other primes, but the colors and micro-contrast completely make up for it....Very happy, now I just have to convince myself not to sell my 35L to try to get the 35ZE.....

The Zeiss 50/2 MP is an exceptionally sharp lens, and at all distances. You probably are not nailing the focus, as MF can be challenging with moving subjects (kids). Do you have the Eg-S focusing screen?
The way to test sharpness is to use a tripod and Live View 10X. You should really be able to nail the focus with that approach, and test what is the best one can achieve with this lens.

I am sure I have a lot more learning to do and will get better and better. I don't have the EG-s screen, and not sure I want to as I like to use my other AF lenses and sometimes stopped way down. It's definately sharp for sure, I think I am just used to my 85L and 135L which are razor sharp....Definately no complaints here, in fact I am kind of torn right now and looking for some opinions.

My lens list is below, I just traded my 17-40 for a 24-70 for my portrait work where I really need the AF. I still prefer my primes, but this will be my only zoom for now. That leads me to my 35L, my favorite focal length, and I never thought I would sell it, but I am just in love with the Zeiss colors and micro contrast. So, I am thinking of eather trading it for the 35 f2+$ or selling it and buying the 35 f/1.4. I have scoured this site, FM, and the web, and have found little of what I am looking for in regards of comparisons between the f/2 and f/1.4 in regards to IQ and sharpness. I'd also like to hear how they compare to the IQ and sharpness and bokeh too I guess to the 35L. I realize the stop differences and the AF/MF differences, and weight is not an issue.

Funny enough, I checked the metadata on my 35L, and most my shots are at f/2, and the second most at f/1.4.....Go figure........HELP!!!!!
