Good Technique. I find it's much easier to shoot with that left hand well out on the hood/barrel seam.

No picture, but we had a local newspaper photographer here at my work the other day to photograph some of our veterans that work here (including me)...

after the shoot I was asking her how she liked her 5D and 24-105 lens... She just looked at me all confused like. Then had to look down at her camera and lens, and said, "wow your good, I didn't even know that's the lens I had on here..." I guess she didn't expect a dirty grungy factory worker like me to be interested in Photography, cause when I mentioned I used a 1DmkII she said something in a rather snotty tone along the sorts of, "hmm, never heard of that one, well, this is a really nice camera and a big step up from...." and at this point her voice just faded off into the distance as I laughed quietly to myself and walked away shaking my head.

Sorry, just thought i'ld share my recent "bumping into" with another photographer. I've never understood why there's so many photographer's out there that seem so damn snotty. I didn't get in her way, I didn't block the shot, I didn't steal money out of her pocket (like i've had happen to me by another photographer giving away his photo's for free at a local motorcycle racing event....) Sorry for the rant, just struck a nerve and the newspaper photographer in the post above reminded me of it.

I found it a bit odd but does make some sense now that I think about it.

I had my left hand under the tripod collar most of the time but when I got tired I extended it to the end before the hood. When shooting up I had it extended.
