Did I improve this?

Uh, Frank, buddy. You took wuzzittoya's picture and posted it on your Flickr site? Do you understand what the concept of copyright is? If you got permission, then you should have accredited the owner and put a notice, "Used with permission".

At least he took one of my older ones that has a blazingly obvious watermark. He's new and I suspect that he might have had trouble doing it any other way. I know that I tried to start a thread and couldn't post a picture in it for ANYTHING until someone showed me (and then it was a serious face-palm "duh" kind of feeling! LOL). I'm new too...

It was strange - I uploaded the brighter one to a chicken owners group on Facebook (the backyard chicken phenomena is pretty amazing) and it when FB compressed the image it dimmed it quite a bit compared to flickr. It's fascinating for me to see all of this.

Thank you i have no idea how to put a picture on a forum

and i chose that picture because buddy was correctly expose the only thing that needed a little fix was the background

Too bad but I'm afraid it's your loss. This is one of the friendliest (and most active) photo forums I've seen. Why we even have Nikon shooters who feel quite comfortable here.

I thought Joedlh was quite polite in his comment since you did not mention that the image was used with permission. Having the watermark visible simply shows it wasn't yours, not that you had permission to use it.

My wife painted a portrait of a young girl with her chicken a while back - one of my favorites.

And Portland, Oregon just had a tour of backyard chicken coups. I figured Portland is weird so no big deal, but it seems to be all the rage these days.

I actually like the contrast, saturation.. but I'm not a big fan of the vignette.

Wow...a whole seven posts and you're already insulting a long time member. What are you, 15 or something? Joedlh's post wasn't rude, just politely pointing out to you proper etiquette (or didn't your parents teach you that)? Thank you Foxfire - when I did the vignette I wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not - it kind of made the coloration and him just stand out more, but it did seem like a bit much.

Titus - I have a friend who is a painter who keeps begging to do a picture of my house chicken and me. However, she offers to do this for the "friendly" price of $300. I actually live in an area where chickens are common (and have even met one or two others who have had house chickens, one who had a litter box trained rooster, even) here though. Unincorporated rural county where farmers are everywhere and people who don't really "farm" still seem to have a goat or two, a dozen chickens, etc., sometimes raise a bottle-fed calf if they find one cheap.

Hubby's uncle and cousin are both full-time farmers and his family's farm is a Missouri Century Farm.

No ma'am, my monitor isn't what I would call properly calibrated (although I've adjusted it the best I can with a program I downloaded)- it's just too old and persnickety. A new, reliable monitor is on my wish list for next year! FWIW, though, I'm looking at it now on my laptop (much more accurate color-wise) and I still like it. Yes, it's obviously had the saturation adjusted, but I don't think it really takes away from the image- in fact I think it gives it a little something extra. To each their own!

I only work on a laptop at the moment. Hubby got a new computer for himself upstairs but his work area is a disaster and I don't have any interest in trying to work there.

I need to tweak some of my winter storm shots (have pictures of birds in them) and see what people think - I realized as I was looking at them last night that if I brighten them too much they might look better but the fact they're in the midst of a spring blizzard gets kind of lost if the weather/colors around them aren't gloomy. I'm going to do a few and post for critique to see where people fall on that spectrum sometime next week, I think.
