I'm pretty new at night photography and have been working to get a good balance between a sweet starburst pattern on lights without overblowing them out. I also wonder if I have made the blacks black enough.

This is a shot of Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. I am standing out in the middle of the ocean with a tripod... it was pretty scary actually! I managed to keep it still for 70 seconds with waves drenching my back lol. I wanted to try to get at least 2 shots - as the tide was coming in, I was getting more of a reflection... but it was just getting way too high and this was my only real shot.

Thoughts, comments? Thank you!

ps i didn't notice until later, but my girlfriend is sitting in the center of the photo playing a DS

Nintendo DS! I believe she is playing final fantasy 4, lol. You can see it is lighting her face up. I guess in a way it makes the shot a little more personal. :p

EDIT: Holy cow, I'm looking at this post from another computer and it's SO DARK!!! I can't even see my GF at all on this monitor. Now I'm not sure which monitor to believe - is this photo underexposed?

Neat shot, it does seem rather dark on the bottom. On my monitor most has gone completely black, with no detail in shadows. Underneath the flag, where there are tons of lights, is where my eye goes first. I think if that wasnt as prominent it might be a bit more cohesive. Good job otherwise!
