Had my VMini on a superclamp - attached to a stand and when carrying it simply fell off onto the ground abruptly, it wasn't knocked or under further stress than it's own weight. The stud had completely fallen out. So I wouldn't necessarily trust it as-is. Anyone have any other recommendations for mounting these things to light stands?

Wishing the casing were made out of aluminum

Wow! That's not good! I use a super clamp myself to mount the VML to the light stand. Are you going to send it back to PCB for repair?

I also saw this exact thing happened to someone else over at FM.

I've noticed that on mine I can no longer remove the superclamp stud I have mounted it because the the whole mount freely rotates. After seeing your disaster I can only imagine mine coming apart in the same way very soon.

My feedback

I just hang mine from one of the light stand knobs using the supplied strap.

Time for a bungee cord to wrap the VML to the light stand. Should make it easier to move the light stand around without the battery bouncing around.

If you hang it on a clamp and don't support the bottom of the VML it puts extra pressure on the mount. It wasn't intended to be hung like that. When you use the OEM clamp, the bottom of the VML rests against the stand. When you hang it on a clamp, the bottom of the VML sort of floats in the air. If you want to hang it from a clamp like that, use a contact adhesive and some foam to add a support at the bottom.

Would a velcro strap work? Maybe passed through the shoulder strap holes on each side and around the light stand...

I just used the included shoulder strap and did this :

Mounts to anything real easy, it clips on the lightstand's locking knobs for me or my belt.

I keep my MINI in one of these. http://www.thinktankphoto.com …-u-thirsty-belt-pack.aspx (external link) Fits perfectly. Makes attachment to almost anything else much easier. Assistant often wears it on their belt while holding the Einstein and BD on a paint pole.

This is what I do. No problem so far in multiple outdoor shoots.

Not worth mounting I've found in my experience with the mini vagabond.
