A while ago I saw led strips advertised by an electronics shop I regularly buy from: 24 leds on a flexible strip, 12V DC 75mA power requirement. I bought four: red, green, blue and white. To protect them I mounted them in aluminium U-strip and also made a small switch-board fed by a 12VDC - 500mA "wall wart". On the alu strips I put velcro pads so that I can put the four strips together or seperate them easily. The strips are great for effect lighting and easier to handle than strobes with gels. In the whitebox most of the time exposure time does not matter..... Plain paper sheets for diffusing the light (otherwise you might see individual coloured dots from the leds in reflections.)
Here is the set up (larger images on Flickr - click on the image):

Setup shot. Taken with a Canon Rebel XTi with 100mm Macro lens. Lighting was a Alienbees B800 triggered with Cybersyncs.

Pretty funny comments in that link. People jumping to bad conclusions while calling 'fail.'

WOW, some people are ignorant... One post said something about pink and white, where do they see pink and white other than maybe on the puzzle box... and besides, the set-up shows in plain view that the shot was not photoshopped.

I've only got one photograph of my kit in an unusual setup, and even then it's not sitting on the right tripod.

My camera and big lens.

Uneducated people... We know what went into this!

Funny thing is that people think it was shopped... I think it would be a lot easier and less time consuming to do it as shot than to try to shop it...

Were the dark shadows in the eyes intentional?

Hey Tom,

That is correct...I have another exposure where his face is more lite up. I showed the client a comparison between the two and he favored this shot more.

Thanks,

Jason
