Purchased my first flash... help with sync cords.

Thanks to the extensive catalog of posts here, I was able to do a lot of research and decided on a YN-560 as my first flash. I was torn no whether I really needed E-TTL, but ultimately decided that the positive reviews/features of the 560 outweighed E-TTL for the price, and I figure learning manual will make me a better photographer anyway

That said, I would like to experiment with using this flash off-camera for shots of my aquarium and portraits. I use a Rebel XSi which does not have a PC port, so I was wondering if somebody could point me in the right direction for a good option for off-camera triggering? Wireless isn't necessary, though if the price is right I would opt for it.

The Cactus V5's work really well for wireless triggering and they double as a wireless shutter release.

Don't go wired. You will just end up buying some wireless triggers and have wasted both the time and money on thinking you'll be ok with a 25ft PC cable.

Like the previous comments recommended, both the RF-602's and Cactus V5's are great options. For connectors and cables of all types, definitely buy through FlashZebra (Lon is fantastic).

I agree with the others - RF-603/602 works fine for wireless. But if you like wired buy a $5 hot shoe adapter.

Thanks a bunch for the suggestion! I went ahead and ordered the RF-602 trigger from Amazon, very much looking forward to finally being able to play around with flash photography.

do you only need one rf-602 to get it working?

1 SET, yes. You need a transmitter and a receiver.

There is a class of products which ONLY triggers; no ETTL automation: Cactus V2, Pocket Wizard Plus II /Multimax, PC cord, hotshoe-PC adapter.


There is a class of products which transmits all ETTL signals: Canon OC-E3 cord, Pocket Wizard MiniTT1 transmitter and FlexTT5 receiver, Pixel King Wireless ETTL

I have RF-603s and they work flawlessly for me. I recommend them definitely.
