Hi everyone,

Well im new to using a dslr and dont really know much at all, but saying that i have a passion to learn would be an understatement.

More than anything I love newborn photography so when I had my son 4 weeks ago I took this pic and would love to be ripped apart  although on your comments dont be too "technical" and if you are please explain it as like i said i am just learning :) All i done was convert it to b&w, still need to learn how to process photos.

Thanks for looking

Jen

ps, hopefully the quality of the image is ok as ive had trouble uploading it due to the size?

I really like it, I would probably process it more, however.

You might be the first person ever to be brand new to DSLR and already shooting in M and spot metering!! I'd say you're off to a great start. My only comment is that it seems a little under-exposed. Your 50D is actually very good at higher ISO's, so you should experiment with bumping up the ISO to allow a bit more light on your subject. Very nice work for just getting started. Oh, and welcome to POTN!! You will learn a TON on this site.

Thanks everyone :-)...

Reason im new to dslr and using manual mode is simply coz i didnt buy the camera to use as a point and shoot. My cousin has a dslr and when i started asking her questions when i was ready to buy a dslr she informed me that after 3 years of ownig her dslr she has never used manual and so i vowes i will never use automatic until i know how to use manual lol

Has anyone any direction to point me in when it comes to processing the photo?

Not enough tonal range in your black and white (it's a little flat)

Nice composition though

Glad people are liking tbe composition as i was worried about it being too tightly cropped.
