Ok, so I am kind of new to photography, using a Rebel XTI. I recently got a bonus and am currently trying to purchase a 5D Classic from some sellers on this forum. Anyway, I need a couple of lenses to shoot scenic, sports, and family pics. I have $1800 to spend on lenses, maybe a bit more if I get a good deal on a 5D Classic here.

I would like to have some suggestions on 2-3 lenses from some of you guys.

Thanks in advance!

$1800 to spend... for your XTI, try to get a hold of a 24-105 and a 70-200 f/4 IS (you may have to kick in a little extra to get them new, otherwise look into refurb or used from our Buy/Sell forums). And then, once funds allow, a flash and either a 35 f/2 or 50 f/1.8, depending on the focal length you prefer. The f/4 lenses are sharp and versatile, can't go wrong there. If you were sticking with the XTI only, I would have suggested the 15-85 and 70-200, but being as it's EF-S, you wouldn't have been able to use the 15-85 on the 5D Classic.

24-70L and the 70-200 2.8L non-IS...might be just above your budget but those would be a good combo, I think, to accomplish what you're looking to do.

The 24-105 is wonderful on the 5Dc for what you want; very versatile focal lengths, lightweight, convenient. Not great for low light, but then I use my flash for that.

Look into the 24-105 L & a 50mm 1.4.

I love my 35mm f/2 for being a cheap amazing lens. I've gone the way of prime, so that should also be another question. Prime or zoom?
