My question is not so much whether $1959 is a good price deal for a 5D Mark ii, but whether anyone has purchased stuff through Ryther Camera and got prompt and satisfactory service.

Actually, the Canon 5D mark ii is $2099 today, but was $1959 yesterday and $1999 last week.

Anyone purchased stuff through Ryther before? I've bought through Amazon and each time that's worked out very good. I had not heard of Ryther until last week, so it's new to me. I almost ordered last night, with the price just slightly over that of the 7D at other places. Since I haven't settled 100% on whether to get the 60D, 7D or 5D mark ii, I was hesitant. But that price almost made the hesitation vaporize.

The feedback will be applicable to whether I'd choose a 60D or 7D too, because their prices were affordable for those models as well. $849 & $1389 today, 9/30

8.82 for Ryther. B&H is over 9.0. I've bought several times through 42nd Street which is a few 1/100's variance from Ryther. Amazon is under 6.0, and that's worked flawlessly for me so far. From that angle, I'd say that 8.82 sounds pretty good.

Bought my 5D2 from Ryther back in March -- I went through the same dilemma and took a chance figuring my AMEX card would take care of me if things went wrong. Someone from Ryther called me the next day to sell other stuff (CF card, etc) and I told him I wasn't interested. Then he asked if I wanted insurance and offerred to speed up my delivery from 2 weeks to 1 for about $40 (I knew beforehand that it would take 2 weeks so he wasn't pulling anything there). I went for it, and my price was still $300 cheaper than Amazon and most other places. I did some research then and I didn't see any complaints out of ordinary, and supposedly they did have an Ebay store where their ratings there was excellent. Anyway, my 5D2 arrived brand new, although I can tell it was initially a kit that they separated out the 24-105mm lens. Also had a US warranty. It's been 7 months and so far so good, and I can't be happier with the 5D2, and the $300 savings went towards my 24-70.

I'm from new jersey and I have two friends who bought a Nikon D7000 with kit lens and Canon 7D with kit lens from them. They have a store in Linden NJ and the guy we spoke said they mostly sell online and they just recently open that store in NJ. I believe the store front is open m-f. Make sure when you get from them ask if the camera has US warranty or import. Just to let you know I'm not affiliated with Ryther Camera I'm just sharing you my personal experience.

mdvaden,
I have seen Ryther camera for a while through reselleratings and the one major attribute that I noticed about Ryther camera is that they are NOT a Canon authorized dealer- so be very careful. I only deal with Canon authorized dealers when I buy my Canon equipment. Good luck. glenphoto

Not too sure about having a US warranty or not but they are not authorized Canon dealers. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=4&sqi=2&ved=0CDIQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fusa.canon.com%2Fapp%2Fpdf%2Fdealer%2FCanonAuthorizedDealers.pdf&rct=j&q=Ryther%20Camera%20authorized%20canon%20dealer&ei=CKqGTuG-AoPXiAKrycHHDA&usg=AFQjCNHMEnlGI7dWXAhhmncCAlJ6qpH4rg&cad=rja (external link)

2 weeks for delivery? Was it coming from Tibet? The slowest time for UPS in the US is 5-6 days for ground delivery. I have sold many cameras on ebay and the most I have paid for shipping is around $25 to $30. Sounds like they are still making money on you by charging high shipping and Ins costs. And USPS is cheaper still.

Like I said, even paying extra for faster delivery was still $300 cheaper than other places. I'm certainly not trying to defend Ryther -- the OP requested if anyone had experience with Ryther and I'm merely giving him my experience. Whether they seem legit or not, or whether you want to take a chance with them or not, that's really up to you to decide.

I don't care what the over all rating is for places like that - all it takes is one review where they try to work you over with upgrades, improved shipping, phone calls to verify stuff etc and I'm marking them down as another bait and switch operation.

I don't want them opening the box, I don't want them giving me half a kit, I don't want them telling me later, oh, you paid for the international version, the US version will be X more...

There are so many on-line retailers that simply take your order, ship your order, you get exactly what you want for a fair price in a reasonable amount of time... it makes no sense to frequent these fly by night, new name every 6 month operations.

But that's me - you spend your money how you choose. :)
