PM me, I dont think it would be too much of a hassle to get some and send them to you if you want to pay the extra money for shipping costs. Ill give it a try for ya!

PMed you back.

I am trialling metal split rings for now. Maybe they will do the trick instead.

What are peoples views on the metal-to-metal contact between them and the strap points on the camera?

I don't carry the camera where the strap is taking a lot of the load very much anyway.

My only concern with using metal in any way near the camera body is that anytime I have seen it done I see scratches from it on the body and for me thats a big no no. There are plenty of safe plastic solutions (like all the Op/Tech stuff) out there that one should not have to use metal.

Nothing's safe. I have adapt-its and the composite plastic carabiner-style clips on my straps, and the clips have worn off the black paint on one side, an area of about 3mm. Metal may be worse, but anything can do it.

Sigh... Thats terrible. Well, what I have found to work best that has yet to scratch is the Op/Tech Utility Loops LINK (external link)and their clasp straps. That has never scratched and I like how minimal it is once the neck strap is removed.

The loops are great in that regard. They just leave something that can be cut in a slash and grab theft. I generally carry the camera with the strap across my chest and the camera on my hip. It might be a tempting target in some of the places I've been to.

Oh yea, thats a WHOLE different concern and story. Yea I just carry insurance and leave it at that for those situations. They can HAVE my gear, just as long as they dont hurt me or whoever Im with. My insurance will cover the theft. And if Im REALLY concerned with where Im shooting, I pack other forms of protection ;)

I used to use a small split ring (size 6, 80# test) and never had an issue with scratching

I use those, on both of my cameras and they are great, i do wish the holes were bigger though, i have a strap that cannot fit in the hole so i have to clip it through the cable part.

I have a RC4 (similar to the clickelite thing that i made before it was released) if i need to carry the camera away that works GREAT and GL cutting/getting the camera in a hurry, its locked in solid, though if im in an area of danger, i just prefer to put the big cameras away and rock on with my duct-taped X100.

:)

I've been evaluating AA battery holders, and this is my favorite. It's the battery caddy by Powerpax. (external link)

The advantage over other cases such as Thomas (external link) and Delkin(AKA Dot Line) (external link) is that you can hold it in your hand and press out the batteries with your thumb, right into the Speedlite slots. All one handed.

Just dump the old batteries in your hand, stick them in a pocket, reach in your bag and pull out a loaded caddy and if the cells are put in alternating top and bottom, just slide each out with your thumb. It's kind of like a speed-loader for AA's. Each cell is held in place until you push with your thumb or finger.

Each caddy weighs almost nothing unlike the Delkin cases, though the Thomas are lightweight and cheap. You can also throw in several loaded caddies in places left over from packing, as they take up almost no more room than the batteries themselves, and the bright color ones are easily visible.

Multiple colors, orange, yellow, black, OD and clear. About $5. Amazon and Adorama have them. You pay for the design and speed of changing cells.

I was *just* going to say that. It'd be twice as awesome if we can also make/press our own bulle--I mean, batteries. <_< >_>

Yeah, batteries.

That speed loader is actually pretty cool. It's always so annoying changing out batteries while on the move with 1 hand. I only have the Thomas cases right now but will pick up a couple of these for when I'm in a hurry. Funny thing is I never use the speed loader on my handguns.

Not quite camera gear oriented but as far as "multi-purpose" goes, this thing is a beast.
