Sounds like you're having a great time and have gotten to some of the places I recommended.
I look forward to seeing your photos. I miss Alaska as far as summer time, but am pleased to not have the long dark winters anymore.

Oct 05, 2011 21:53 | #32 On the Seward Highway heading toward Whittier and cruise: Caught the tail end of a glacier calving: What's left of the Independence Mine: Houses still standing at Independence Mine: Eagle River: A popular trail was closed due to bear activity. We finally saw one. It was probably 500 yards away in the brush, across the water line you see above. I only had my 70-200 and 2x TCIII, so pic is blurry. Once again, thanks to all for your suggestions and guidance. Alaska: Wow, what a place.

hawk911 Cream of the Crop More info | Oct 12, 2011 10:02 | #36 I would suggest renting a long lens if you are going anywhere in Alaska. My 70-300 I used to have was not worthy of the trip, but I only found that out later. Rent a 300mm 2.8 or maybe even a 400mm. A second body with a shorter lens would be a good idea in case something does pop up close by. We went in June, almost 7 yrs ago. It was 80 deg all week long, but watch out for skiters!!! And don't use Deet close to your gear- it takes the finish off! HAWK Photography Gallery
