Create my own Photographic company

I want to become a photographer since that it has been my wish for so long and now i think is the best time to start but i really don't know what steps to take one by one. I've got lightning, backgrounds, stands, camera and some lenses ready but i don't know what to do next. I really would like to find someone that would help me going through this process since that i have seen loads of people in here with the same wishes and dreams as me. I'm not looking on doing weddings any time soon but more studio photography and modeling. Is anyone in here willing to help me?

You have camera gear right? You use it? Then you are a photographer.

How much photography experience do you have? Looking at your previous posts you have only had your 1000D for a couple of months. Any photography experience before you got this camera?

I don't mean to sound harsh and I'm all for trying to get along in the world but from what I can see you should maybe spend some more time shooting and get more experience before you start charging for your work.

I know but i want to take it futher and get clients to know what i do and what i am. I want to take it of the ground. I have taken some photos for my family members but i haven't don't anything other than that.

^ I agree with Mike. There's so much more to running a business than you think. It's not something that you can do overnight. Unfortunately a lot of people like you who aren't even comfortable with their gear feel like their ready to start charging for photos just because your friends and family comment on your pictures. I would suggest starting to build your portfolio more with free work and trying to narrow down the type of portraits your wanting to shoot and then perfect that before trying to go any further. It's nice to dream but you charging less and doing a bad job isn't helping the industry or other pro's who actually know and care about what they're doing and struggling doing so.

I've been shooting for about 10 years and only in the last few have I been comfortable doing paid shoots. I never would have for the first 5 years or so and I still know I have a lot to learn in both business and technique.

For every 100 people on this forum that attempt to start a photography business, I would imagine there are maybe less than 10 that are successful in making it work...

I can understand wanting to turn a passion for the hobby into a way to make money and we've all felt that way, but one should be prepared to fail because it's more than likely that's what will happen.

In 45 years as a photographer, I never made enough money taking pictures to be able to support myself without another source of income, first as a career Navy man and then in the aviation industry.

Start by contacting the following people:
Insurance agent for liability insurance
State sales tax official to apply for tax certificate
County or state tax assessor tp pay property tax on your gear.
Accountant to discuss tax and business issues
Attorney for contracts unless you do the home work yourself
Website developer
Business and marketing materials
Professional lab for prints and products
Check advertising outlets in your area for pricing
Make a list of all the other photographers in the area and compare against population base. At least triple the number of photogs that you find in advertisments to get a true number and account for the scabs.

Here use tax is the sales tax that you have to pay on goods you purchased tax free out of state(internet). Property tax is the yearly tax on the assessed value of your property you use for the business. Cameras, lens, printers, computer, desk etc. Pretty much like your proprty tax on your house.

Is this what you do and who you are?

I see overexposed, soft photos with color casts and someone who doesn't understand the basics of photography yet. If that's what you want your clients to know then I don't think they will be clients for long - unless you charge the price of $Free.

Harsh I know, but you are not ready, so please take the advice of people who are trying to help instead of posting a reply like this.

You need to start from the basics, lean the fundamentals and learn how your gear operates.

Keep taking pictures, post them for help, learn from what you do wrong, don't be too proud of your own work to take the advice of others and be your own worst critic. Then revisit this idea again in about a year and see where you are at then.
