Oct 12, 2011 18:38 | #4 +1 Paolo. Asking for advice without saying what you will use the lens for is asking to throw out money. The first and third choices are almost non-overlapping: what one is good for the other can't even do. So what would you most like to shoot that you can't shoot with whatever you now have? Oct 12, 2011 19:00 | #8 some landscapes/city scapes, but maybe also useful for some portraits if that make sense. the 15-85 is a superb lens, and it is fine for landscapes other than very wide angle. I have a 50D too, and I use the 15-85 and a 70-200 for landscapes. (I rarely want to go wider than 15mm anyway.) It's a good focal length range for portraits but on the slow side for that use--you might want faster for lower light and for narrower DOF. Check out my photos at http://dkoretz.smugmug.com

It's also cheaper than the 15-85! [Canon 5DII/30D | 24-70 f2.8L | Σ 30 f1.4 | Σ 50 f1.4 | 70-200 f4L | 580EX II ]

I would look at the Tamron or Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 lenses. Constant f/2.8 aperture is a great feature to have. Mark-B
