I upgraded (but kept) my trusty 20D and picked up a Used 1DMkIII

First Bird shot with it, this bugger was FAST.

Certainly not the best shots, but my first shots with the new camera.

I also bought a new pair of lenses to go with the 1d, 24-105 f/4L and 70-200 f/4L

I brought the Canon one after reading so many negative reports of soft or miss-focus on the Sigma and have not regretted the purchase, I got a great copy and love it. I did not even look at or try the Sigma.

Then, I wanted a wider prime and looked at both the Canon 28 f1.8 and the Sigma 30 f1.4 and came away with the Sigma. I have not regretted that purchase either, in fact I love it - probably moreso than my Canon 50 f1.4.

Given that experience I probably should have looked and tried the Sigma for the 50 as well. My advice is to try both if you can before you make your decision.

I bought the Canon one, USM motor died out of warranty. Repair was half replacement price of lens but I was told it was a very common fault.

Similar thing happened to my 24-70. I had to replace the aperture diaphragm which cost me $650. Wasn't the happiest of campers. :mad:

I also debated that... and went for the sigma... You should buy the sigma. (if you have a good copy - like i do) it will blow the canon away...
