Hello zikri,
If that was a Postal Service money order then contact the USPS and report it as fraudulent activity. Don't just ask for your money back. A Postal Inspector will investigate it as mail fraud (external link), which is a federal offense. That type money order does have some benefit of protection.

I would first contact the Seller though and let them know you are going to take this step, in "x" amount of days, if they do not resolve the issue for you, period.

good luck

The bad thing is, this seller has several positive feedbacks here on fairly expensive items, which explains why the OP does not think he is being scammed. Five months is definitely way too long, and the fact that he/she keeps making excuses and other delay tactics is alarming to me.

What can Paypal do once the seller provides a tracking number and said it was shipped?

All I know is I'd never send a $1200 money order. 2nd if it's been 5 months you will never see the camera. I'd take what ever action I could and see what can be done.

These bad deals can happen anywhere, I think the mods here do as good of a job as can be done in handling it. Unlike EBay, most people aren't here to screw someone for a few bucks. Given the amount of stuff for sale, I see very few reports of bad deals.

Paypal can and will give your money back anyways. I sold something on ebay a long time ago, and went through it. He filed a claim with paypal instead of even talking to me. I sent paypal everything they asked for, tracking number and all that. They sided with the buyer. Luckily, it was only $100.

NON-GIFT Paypal has coverage. I believe if you do a transaction using the Gift method, then there is no helping you out, if you run into trouble with a transaction.

My most recent transaction on POTN, is considered my worst. But by other's standards, it's not bad at all. And in the end, it all worked out A-OK. I purchased a lens from someone on here, received it a few days later. Upon taking it out of the box, the lens was horrendously hard to manual focus past a certain point. And when in AF mode, the lens wouldn't even focus past 4meters. Long story short, I got my money back, sans shipping back to the seller. But, the seller was remorseful and in the end, refunded my money without question.

I was going to ask why didn't you use PayPal? If I ever bought something from here I'd use it. 5 months is just too long to wait. And the guy didn't insure it or put tracking on it? That's BS! It's going to be tough but get that money back. If there is no tracking that D7000 could be in Timbuktu for all we know. The Post office won't pony up any dough either because it probably wasn't insured.

And it doesn't matter how many positive feedbacks this guy has. As far as I'm concerned, this transaction cancels out all of his positive feedbacks. Crook!
