good job with the timing and the light!

Thanks for the kind words. I think the next time I will go with a higher ISO so I can get the shutter speed up.

Playing around with some PP techniques. Like it or hate it?

Hi Michael,

I am just curious when you shoot outside in the rain, what are you using to cover your gear from rain? It's been lousy for the past 3 days and weekend is gonna be crap too and I want to get out and shoot some football this weekend and landscapes but I just don't feel very safe taking my equipment out in rain.

By the way, I don't have 7D but a 5D II and 24-70 and 70-200 MK II.

Thanks,
Karim.

Hey Karim,

I'm just using a plain old umbrella when I get out. One of the considerations was to make sure water did not fall on the front element/filter, as that would really blur out the image.

It makes it hard to hold the camera, because one hand has to hold the umbrella. I'd imagine it would be especially so if you intend to mount the 70-200 on it.

For these 2 images I had my Sigma 30mm on it. Not weather sealed or anything, and the exterior actually got quite moist, both body and lens, despite being held closely under the umbrella.

Nothing untoward has happened with the camera or lens, so I think it should be pretty safe—just don't overdo it; I was out for not longer than 15-30 minutes in light drizzle, not enough time for water to work its way through gaps and kill the electronics, I don't think.

If you're going to do football, probably stuck in a pit somewhere for some time, I'd definitely get some kind of cover to make sure things remain dry-ish.

I've been putting it off for months, but I decided it was time to finally get the macro lens I always wanted -- the 100mm 2.8L IS Can't wait to play with this baby when I get home!

This photo was taking with 24-70L, very disappointed in how soft it is. I contacted Canon and will be sending it in tomorrow to get calibrated.

This is not the lens, this shot is OOF and there may also be some motion blur. Furthermore, I had a peek at your flickr and see some sharp 24-70 shots. If you're saying you just got this lens (I think you are) - then what you're experiencing is nothing more than a learning curve. And, that is OK. The lens (like most any other lens) takes some getting used to and practice. Don't be discouraged if you get OOF shots from it, at the beginning. my 2 cents.

I really appreciate the feedback, I had the lens about 3 months now and when I first got it, it was dead on as far as focusing. But this past weekend it did not come off the body and ALL my photos came out like this. I also tried a few still shots using a tripod to take out the motion blur and when uploaded to Lightroom, the focusing is very inconsistent. I had shipped it out to Canon to get recalibrated.
